PPP（Point to Point Protocol，点对点协议）是一种串行封装协议，可用于异步（拨号）或者同步通信（ISDN）。PPP的主要目的是透过点对点链路传送第三层的数据包，支持包括IP、IPX、AppleTalk等协议。而传统的SLIP（串行链路Internet协议）只能传送IP数据包。另外，PPP还可以在以太网（PPPoE）和ATM（PPPoA）上进行传输。由于具有这些优点，以及PPP的低开销，使得它成为远程访问的极好选择。
